The concept of the mental health facility is drawn from the ebbs and flows of ocean waves. The rise, fall, and crashing of waves represent the ups and downs of life’s challenges. When changes must be made in life, we can look to nature to create comfort, safety, and fluidity. This will be created through color focusing on warm neutrals such as beige, tan, cream, and white that represent the comfort of sand. As ocean waves create a tapestry of blues with each ebb and flow, there will be various ranges of blue hues incorporated throughout the hospital. Natural woods and large expansive windows will pull in natural light to the space. Plants will bring the soothing aspects of the outdoors inside. There will be gathering areas incorporated throughout the facility for social interaction. Nooks and alcoves will provide a safe and private area to reflect and heal. Harmony and balance will be created through the use of gently curved lines, organic textures, natural woods/stones, and water features. These features will be key to creating an inviting, soothing, and safe atmosphere for patients.
